The force of life

Élan vital, coined by French philosopher Henri Bergson in his 1907 book Creative Evolution, was translated in the English edition as “vital impetus”… (Thank you, wikipedia.)

Bergson is the philosopher cited by LRH in his book Science of Survival (p.3) when he was trying to find a descriptive phrase for what he was studying.

For me it’s also a play on words;  “may the force be with you,”  task force, air force and all that.

But the point is, I’m a firm believer in it. In the idea that something stands above the game of life as – just a force. And above that, there is the intention behind the force.

The great irony is that this concept was beaten down and replaced by baser concepts. Some men wanted us to believe that all energy originates in the physical, or that it “always existed.”  But now, after a cycle of war, destruction, and intrigue of a quality and scope unknown in the annals of history, what are the “secret powers” rumored to be studying? Spiritual abilities. They want a way to stay in communication should a giant Electromagnetic Pulse destroy all electronics-based equipment. And what’s their apparent answer? Teach trusted individuals to be telepaths! And who are their instructors? Extraterrestrials!

So the old concept of “life force” takes on new meaning.

I also always thought it would be a great name for a band.

I googled it just now – was amazed at what I found. Maybe get back to that later.
